Throwback Thursday: Remembering Weddings in Movies

By | Brides, Wedding Fashion, Wedding Inspiration, Weddings | No Comments

Today’s Throwback Thursday is dedicated to all of those magical movie weddings that gave us butterflies and had us crying into our pillow! Hollywood sure knows how to design a great wedding, and what better than beautiful celebrities as the Mr. and Mrs.?! Today we go back to remember some of the special moments really stand out to us.

1. Father of the Bride (1991) This movie will make you laugh, cry, and love everything about the traditional wedding ceremony! Amazing that they fit the entire reception in their house; I’ve always wondered exactly how they did that under that gorgeously lit white tent! And who doesn’t want swans at their wedding? Movie FOB

2. Runaway Bride (1999) Julia Roberts is a master at the romantic comedy; we just can’t get over how stunning she looks in a wedding gown! In Runaway Bride she has the pleasure of wearing multiple, but the last one is our favorite.  Movie Runaway bride

3. Bride Wars (2009) Remember when we all wanted to get married on June 5th at The Plaza? It was a popular day, especially in this movie of two best friends that taught us your wedding should be better than everyone else’s and you altar yourself to fit Vera. (just kidding) We just can’t forget the way The Plaza looked while Liv (Kate Hudson) walked down the aisle in that gorgeous Vera Wang! Movie Bride wars

4. Mamma Mia (2008) We sang ABBA all the way till the end of the movie. Even though, Amanda Seyfried and her beau don’t end up being the ones to get hitched, we cannot take away the fact that their wedding was spectacular! In a church, on a hill IN GREECE! Reception under the evening stars. Movie mamma mia

You Can Actually Have Fun Planning Your Wedding- Here’s How!

By | Wedding Planning | No Comments

Remember the feeling of excitement you would get to go home, jump on your computer, and start mindlessly adding pictures to your “Dream Wedding” board? This was before you got the ring…now you have been engaged for months, almost there, and there’s more feelings of dread for this joyous day rather than joy. What happened? destressAbout two weeks before our wedding, I told my husband, “We should’ve eloped.” He looked at me perplexed, then with a laugh and a sigh communicated, “That would’ve been easier.” How did we get here? How did I get here? I had been planning my nuptials for years and could not have been more excited to be marrying the man of my dreams. I think more couples fall into this trap than expected; the FUN gets sucked out of the planning! It starts fun, but then add in making decisions, your opinions, your mother-in-laws opinions, your great uncle’s allergy issues, your best friend can’t make it, your bridesmaids hate the colors you’ve chosen, and the list goes on and on. When I look back, the whole process is a blur but I can remember the moments that made all of the difference and kept me from wanting to run away from it all.

Make Time to Dream– You will be entering into a whole new life as a married couple with so many new adventures ahead. Go to the beach, mountains, or a park and just think about what you want your life to be like as a committed team. Over time dreams grow and change, but this is such a special opportunity to really think about what is possible! Maybe even make your own dream board together to look back on over the years.

Go on Dates– Go out! Make a plan: dinner and a movie, mini golf, game night. This is one of the best de-stressors! Hopefully, you will be going on dates for the rest of your life so keep up this habit! The one condition is YOU CANNOT TALK ABOUT THE WEDDING.  There are plenty of opportunities to make wedding decisions or express worry and concern, but a date is not one of them. Focus on enjoying each others company.

Stop Trying to Please Everyone– This is a hard one. We obviously want to consider everyone, especially if they are family or close friends, however, the opinions of others cannot dictate your every decision or emotion. This will drive you crazy! Whenever there is a new life stage, (i.e. marriage, baby, house) out of the goodness of their hearts, people will freely tell you exactly how to do everything and what you should do. AKA what they did. I will admit that I am guilty of this but from former bride to bride: just remind yourself that this is about you and your fiancé.

Spend Time with your Family– Especially the week of the wedding, you will need this time to decompress and relax. Whether it’s your parents, siblings, aunt, uncle, or grandma,  choose to be around the people that give you a sense of “home.” (even if it’s just for breakfast)

Dance at Your Wedding– It’s time to celebrate!! Let go of the past months, little details, and enjoy the biggest party that will ever be thrown in your honor! Even if you are “not a dancer,” the whole idea is to have a smile on your face and relish is this new beginning.

The stresses of planning a wedding can be straining on your relationships, health, and even future marriage. All of which can take the fun out of a time that could potentially be one of the best memories of your life. We hope these little tips help you take a step back and bring the joy into the planning process! Good luck and happy planning!

The Bridal Bouquet

By | Wedding Flowers, Wedding Inspiration, Wedding Planning | No Comments

In history, herbs and spices were used during weddings to ward off evil spirits.  Ancient Greeks and Romans would wrap a garland of spices and herbs around the Bride and Groom to symbolize new life, hope, and fertility. As time progressed, the fragrances became more meaningful. Eventually, the “flower language” was invented. Romantic lovers used flowers to communicated their feelings instead of letters…hopefully they spoke the same language! (I’m sure there were plenty of mix ups there) Nowadays, couples choose the flowers for their weddings because they like them. It’s all about personal style now; flowers are so beautiful, we’re glad we can pick what we want! We’ve put together some styles of the bridal bouquet that are perfect for any Bride.

One of the most helpful things to do when choosing your flowers is to have a consultation with your florist to discuss the flowers that are in season. They can even help you save money by using more cost effective flowers and still get the look you want! Good luck and happy planning!

Burst of Color!

By | Brides, Destination Weddings, Mansion Wedding, Wedding Fashion, Wedding Inspiration, Wedding Venue, Weddings in California | No Comments

One of our favorite things about weddings is that they all have a unique character. We love when the Bride and Groom choose to be bold and use everyday things we see to inspire their wedding. This gorgeous wedding was inspired by the natural burst of color, flavor and sweetness of the “clementine.” If you are scratching your head, picture a mini orange. The bright and bold colors of this wedding, accented with indigo, is the perfect combination at The Villa Contempo Mansion.

Sometimes Brides can be cautious in using bright colors for their wedding, however, the pops of color make it unique and unforgettable. So even if you went with a neutral palette, add lots of greenery to your flower arrangements; it will keep that classy feel but add a little something “extra.”

Happy Planning!
